Urumqi Airport Terminals

Even beginning its operations in 1939, Urumqi Airport was first opened in 1973 to foreign passengers. It connects Urumqi with the Chinese cities of Beijing and Shanghai, and also to Asian and European cities such as Astana, Tbilisi, Seoul, Novosibirsk, Baku, among others.

By this way, Urumqi Airport serves 99 domestic flights and 14 international flights.

In 1993 began the expansion project of Urumqi Airport. It wasn’t until 2002 that Terminal 3 opened its gates. Nowadays, Terminal 4, the North Terminal, is the only one which is under construction.

Urumqi Airport consist of three passenger terminals, Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, plus Terminal 4, the North Terminal, which is composed of three concourses connected to a central section, serving as a passenger processor facility and still under construction (there hasn’t been announced a completion date).

Transfer between terminals

In order to transfer between terminals, there are at their passengers’ disposal Free Shuttle Buses which connects Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 with a frequency of 30 minutes. They can be boarded in both Terminal 2 (Gate 1) and Terminal 3 arrivals (at the elevator outside Exit 1). Opening hours: First and last flight schedules.

Terminal 1

Terminal 1 was first opened in 1974. It was closed in 2011 for renovation works. On 2014, it reopened again fully renovated, ready to host local and provincial low-cost carriers such as Capital Aviation, Spring Airlines, Tianjin Airlines, Yunnan Xiangpeng Airlines, Okay Airways, China United Airlines and Western Airlines.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is the domestic terminal. It is served by 13 carriers, even being mainly served by Air China.

Terminal 3

Terminal 3 opened in 2009 after development works. It is the international terminal, even is home of China Southern Airlines and other domestic carriers. Flights from Hong Kong and Macau arrives and departs from this terminal.

Terminal 4

The North Terminal, which is the newest terminal, consists of a central terminal connected to three runways. It has been under construction since 2017.
